Born and reared in the Midwest, Anna started cooking and baking very young, at the age of five, which was when her mother first allowed her to open the door of a hot oven. Anna also developed at a young age a strong interest in other languages and cultures. She holds degrees from Bryn Mawr College (A.B. in Russian 1991 summa cum laude) and Yale University (M.A., M. Phil. in Slavic Languages and Literatures, 2001).
Anna also enjoys singing, weaving, and gardening. She lives with her husband and son in Fairfield, Connecticut.
